Chamber Music

Goldsmith, vln; Fischer, cello; Kierman & Jalbert, pno

The Maia String Quartet; Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble; Various artists

Pierre Jalbert has an interesting and effective style of writing. His stunning use of tone colors and subtle nuances transfix the listener. Good examples of this are found in his works Visual Abstract and Transcendental Windows that call for large ensembles including winds and percussion. The performances are first-rate.

"The Toccata. . .is a translucent workout for the fingers and subtly colouristic as well, full of technical demands. . .The composer shows us how it should be done. Transcendental Windows. . .is delightful and evocative. Visual Abstract is. . . Inventive and imaginative." - Jonathan Woolf (MusicWeb)
